Our Story
Now that you have found our website, you want to know a little bit about us. I am sure that you have many questions. Do you really grow coffee in Hawaii? Is your coffee 100% from Hawaii? Is Kona coffee really that special? The answer to all these questions is "yes."
Hawaii is the only U.S. state to grow coffee commercially, and the Kona area (about 2 miles wide by 30 miles long) on Hawaii Island is one of the world's most ideal locations to grow gourmet coffee. This area is on the slopes of two active volcanoes--Hualalai and Mauna Loa--and is on the leeward side of Hawaii Island. This creates the perfect combination of factors that make our Kona coffee exceptional: volcanic soil, a mild climate, light winds, ample rain during the summer, high elevations and just the right amount of sunshine.
Our Cloud Forest Coffee Plantation, established over 15 years ago, is truly a remarkable location. Nestled on the slope of Hualalai volcano at over 3,000 elevation, our farm is unique for its location and elevation-two conditions that we believe create an exceptional cup of coffee.
We welcome visitors to our farm seven days a week and are happy to show how we grow, process and roast our coffee. We are the closest coffee farm to the Waikoloa resort area and are only about a fifteen-minute drive from Kailua-Kona.
Some people ask, "what makes Mountain Thunder coffee special?" We like to answer it is everything. From hand-picked coffee beans to meticulous attention to quality at every step of processing to exceptional roasting. We are 100% focused on providing our customers with some of the best coffee in the world. Read about Mountain Thunder's Quality Control.
